This boxer turned actor moved here with his third wife Gail Evatt when there was no more denying his once leading man persona was over and gone. It was in this home that on April Fool’s Day in 1965 Neal murdered his wife with a .45 pistol after demanding sex and ripping her clothes off her, while accusing his already divorce seeking wife of cheating. As his star fell, Neal was reduced first to being a Matre’D at the Doll House restaurant, where he took reservations of former colleagues, and eventually succumbed to landscaping work to pay the bills. After taking one last stab at re-energizing his career with a script based on the gruesome Black Dahlia Murders, he gave up. The script was well received. Neal was not.
